The Art by Blind is a project dedicated to empowering visually impaired individuals in Sudan through vocational arts and crafts training. Since 2017, we've been committed to fostering self-reliance and independence among this overlooked community.
In Sudan, visual impairment stands as the most prevalent disability, affecting a staggering 31% of the population. Among those who are visually impaired, a concerning 28% are aged 60 years or older. They face a myriad of daunting challenges, from limited access to healthcare, social support, and education, to severe employment scarcity. Shockingly, only 50% of the disabled population in Sudan are currently employed.
The Art by Blind program addresses these challenges head-on by providing visually impaired adults with training in artistry, crafts, jewelry making, and small business management. We aim to equip them with the skills they need for self-employment, fostering entrepreneurship and economic independence.
The Oaknna Foundation collaborated with local organizations and businesses, and we've created an inclusive environment where visually impaired individuals can showcase their talents and contribute meaningfully to society.
The long-term impact of our program goes beyond training—it's about breaking the cycle of poverty and empowering individuals to shape their own futures. Each participant emerges as a resilient individual, overcoming limitations and crafting their own destiny.
